Invisalign and 32Co at Caring Dental
Shape your smile with leading aligners
Depending on your particular need and preference, we offer a choice of excellent clear aligner systems to help you achieve a straighter smile. Invisalign, based in the US, was the first to develop this innovative teeth-straightening technology and is the brand that most patients think of when considering aligners.
We are also proud to offer 32Co, the UK & Ireland’s fastest growing clear aligner system. They are headed by UK-based specialist orthodontists, who provide expert treatment planning. This is particularly useful in more complex cases, ensuring your treatment is predictable, safe and as efficient as possible.

Key benefits of aligners
Aligner treatment involves wearing a series of thin, clear, removable plastic trays, custom-made to gradually move your teeth into their ideal position. Unlike traditional braces, aligners are virtually invisible and can be removed for eating, drinking and oral hygiene.
- Discreet appearance – With no need for wires or brackets, clear aligners are barely noticeable.
- Comfort – Smooth, custom-fitted aligners minimise irritation.
- Gentle tooth movements – Each aligner is usually worn for 7-14 days, allowing the teeth to move gently and comfortably.
- Convenience – Aligners are removable for eating, drinking and cleaning.
- Predictable results – Advanced 3D imaging technology ensures precise treatment planning.

Clear aligner treatment process

1
Initial consultation
At your first appointment, our dentist will discuss what you would like to achieve and assess your suitability for treatment. During this visit:
- We will evaluate your teeth and oral health.
- Photographs of your teeth may be taken.
- A comprehensive discussion will cover how aligners work, suitability for you and treatment expectations.
- We will talk to you about Invisalign and 32Co aligners, and which may be best for your needs.
- We will explain the potential cost of your clear aligner treatment.
The fee for this initial consultation is £120.

2
Treatment planning
If you choose to proceed, we will:
- Take a 3D digital scan of your teeth using our state-of-the-art intraoral 3D scanner (no more unpleasant putty impressions!)
- Take a panoramic X-ray to provide a view of your entire mouth and jaws.
- Send these records to Invisalign or 32Co to create a personalised plan, including a 3D simulation of the anticipated movement of your teeth, and the final result. Your plan will also show where attachments will be located.
- Assess if interproximal reduction (IPR) will be needed to give you the best outcome. This involves gentle reshaping in between some teeth, to create space for alignment.
There is a £250 fee for treatment planning. This is deducted from your treatment should you go ahead.

3
Reviewing your treatment plan
This appointment typically occurs two weeks later and includes:
- Sharing your personalised plan, including a 3D animation of your expected final result.
- Confirming the number of aligners and the estimated treatment duration.
- Reviewing attachments and any requirement for interproximal reduction (IPR).
- Discussing retainer options to preserve your teeth alignment after treatment.
- Confirming the cost of your aligner treatment.
Once you are totally satisfied with your treatment plan, we will ask for an initial payment and place the order for your aligners.

4
Receiving your aligners
Your aligners will be ready approximately two weeks after approval. During your fitting appointment:
- Our dentist will ensure your aligners fit comfortably.
- Interproximal reduction (IPR) may be performed if needed.
- Attachments will be placed on your teeth. These small, tooth-coloured shapes are placed on the teeth to help the aligners apply the correct forces to move your teeth. Sometimes, additional attachments and IPR might be required later on in your treatment.
- We will carefully explain how to wear and care for your aligners, and give you a take-home guide.
As you progress through treatment, you’ll move on to a new set of aligners every 1–2 weeks, gently moving your teeth to their final position.
Regular review appointments, every 4–8 weeks, ensure your treatment stays on track.

Retention
Upon completion of your treatment, it is important to wear retainers to retain your newly aligned smile.
- As part of your treatment, we provide a pair of clear, removable retainers, to be worn at night. These look similar to aligners but are slightly thicker and more durable.
- You may opt to also have fixed retainers, which involves having a thin metal wire fitted to the backs of the front teeth. The benefits and costs of these will be outlined by your dentist. Read more about retainers in the FAQs, below.

Whitening
Achieve the dazzling, bright smile you have always wanted!
- If you have your teeth straightened with us at Caring Dental, we provide you with FREE at-home teeth whitening at the end of your treatment.
- Teeth whitening after clear aligner treatment is the perfect way to finish your smile transformation. As we know many patients like to enhance their smile further with teeth whitening, at Caring Dental we provide you with a custom whitening treatment.
- Whitening involves using a professional and safe peroxide-based gel over a number of weeks, which you can comfortably do at home.

Clear aligner FAQs
Clear aligners are suitable for most adults looking for a discreet way to straighten their teeth. However, they may not be ideal for patients with severe crowding, large gaps, or complex bite issues. In such cases, traditional braces might be required. A consultation will determine if clear aligners are the right option for you.
You will need to commit to wearing them for 22 hours per day to achieve the best result, but can be removed for eating, drinking and cleaning.
Some patients experience a slight lisp when they first start wearing aligners, but this usually disappears within a few days as you adjust to them.
You should remove your aligners when eating or drinking anything other than water. Eating with aligners in place can cause staining, distortion or damage.
Rinse your aligners with cold water and use a soft toothbrush with mild soap to gently clean them. Avoid using whitening toothpaste, as it can be abrasive and cause scratching. Denture cleaning tablets can also be used for a more thorough clean.
Contact us as soon as possible. Depending on your treatment stage, we may advise you to move on to your next set of aligners early or wear your previous aligner while a replacement is ordered. It is important to wear aligners consistently to prevent any delays in your treatment.
You will typically have review appointments every 4–8 weeks to monitor your progress and make any necessary adjustments.
Yes, wearing a retainer is essential to maintain your new smile. Teeth naturally have a tendency to shift over time, so retainers help keep them in place. We provide a set of removable retainers, and offer a fixed retainer if wanted.
The duration of treatment varies depending on the complexity of your case. On average, most patients complete their treatment within 6–18 months.
You may experience mild discomfort or pressure when switching to a new set of aligners. This is normal and indicates that the aligners are working to move your teeth. Any discomfort usually subsides within a few days.
It is not recommended to smoke or vape while wearing aligners, as this can cause staining and may weaken the material.
Aligners should fit snugly over your teeth but should not cause excessive discomfort. If they feel too tight or too loose, please contact us for advice.
Always store your aligners in their protective case when not in use to prevent loss or damage. Avoid wrapping them in tissue or napkins, as they can easily be mistaken for rubbish and thrown away.
If your teeth haven’t fully moved into the desired position by the end of your treatment, we offer refinement aligners, which are additional sets designed to fine-tune your results.
Your dentist will assess your teeth and may take a new digital scan to create refinement aligners if needed. These aligners are usually included as part of your treatment plan, but in some cases, there may be an additional cost.
It’s important to follow your aligner schedule closely and wear them as instructed to minimise the need for refinements. If you have any concerns about your progress, let your dentist know as early as possible so they can make any necessary adjustments.
Once you’ve completed your clear aligner treatment, wearing a retainer is essential to prevent your teeth from shifting back to their original positions. There are two main types of retainer: removable and fixed bonded retainers.
1. ) Removable retainers – these are clear, plastic retainers that look similar to aligners but are slightly thicker and more durable. They need to be worn at night-time indefinitely, initially every night for the first year, but this can then be reduced over time to maintain your results.
There are two types of removable retainers available:
• Standard removable retainers (laboratory-made) – these are custom-made retainers, provided as part of your treatment plan.
• Vivera retainers (by Invisalign®) – Vivera retainers are a premium option made by Invisalign. They are designed using the same SmartTrack material as Invisalign aligners, making them more durable and resistant to cracking. Vivera retainers come in a set of three pairs, providing a longer-lasting solution. These are available at an additional cost for patients who prefer them.
2. ) Fixed bonded retainer – this is a thin wire attached to the back of your front teeth to help keep them in place. It’s a long-term solution that doesn’t need to be removed, making it a great option for people who might forget to wear a removable retainer. However it is not a replacement for a removable retainer—rather, it serves as an additional layer of protection.
As the wire stays in your mouth, it requires extra care when brushing and flossing to prevent plaque and tartar buildup. Over time, it may come loose and need repair or replacement.
