Bright smiles at Crofton School

Bright smiles at Crofton School

Dentists Natalie and Chris with the goody bags

A couple of weeks ago, our Caring Dental team had the pleasure of visiting Crofton School in Petts Wood. Dentists Chris and Natalie spent the morning with 180 enthusiastic pupils, sharing tips on how to keep their teeth healthy and their smiles bright!

What did we get up to?

With plenty of energy (and a few laughs along the way), Chris and Natalie spoke about the importance of brushing twice a day, eating less sugar, and why regular dental check-ups are so important.

To make it even more exciting, every child received a special goodie bag, packed with:

  • A bamboo toothbrush
  • A tube of kids’ toothpaste
  • A fun activity book full of tooth-friendly tips
Why is this so important?

Tooth decay is still the most common reason children aged 6 to 10 are admitted to hospital — something we all want to help prevent. That’s why programmes like Bright Bites, run by Denplan and the dental charity Dentaid, are so important.

In 2023, 15 million school days were missed due to dental problems. Bright Bites tackles these challenges by educating children and their families about oral health. Since launching, the programme has reached 30,000 children nationwide, and they’re aiming to reach even more.

Making a difference

It’s not just about teaching children — Bright Bites also provides resources for parents and teachers, helping to reinforce good oral health habits at home and at school. Seeing the excitement and curiosity from the children and knowing we’ve made an impact makes it all worthwhile.

Brushing tips for little ones

We know getting kids to brush their teeth can sometimes feel like a battle, so here are a few tips to make it easier:

  • Turn it into a game: Use a timer or a fun song to make brushing more enjoyable.
  • Let them choose: A toothbrush or toothpaste with their favourite character can make all the difference.
  • Reward good habits: Stickers or a star chart can encourage them to brush regularly.

We’re proud to support initiatives like Bright Bites and look forward to visiting more schools in the future. Together, we can help children develop healthy habits for life!
